Ethiopia’s coffee culture dates back centuries, with historical evidence confirming it as the birthplace of this legendary drink. Arabica coffee originates from southwestern Ethiopia, and it is believed that the name “Arabica” was given when coffee was introduced to Arabia in the 7th century. According to legend, dervishes once observed goats energetically feeding on coffee cherries and, inspired by their vigor, brewed the first coffee beverage from the plant’s fruit. Our Ethiopian coffee comes from the Burtukan Geremev Farm, owned by Mrs. Burtukan, whose family has cultivated coffee in Idedu for generations. The 2.6-hectare farm was inherited from her parents and is now lovingly tended by her family. Dedicated to tradition, they have replanted heirloom varieties, preserving the authentic flavors of Ethiopian coffee. Mrs. Burtukan is among the few women participating in a single-producer program, ensuring that her coffee is processed with meticulous care. Following the natural drying method, the coffee cherries are sun-dried for 12 to 14 days, allowing the beans to develop their characteristic rich and fruity profile.
